Spirituality, Religion & Science

Spirituality to Religion to Science…and back again

So where did it really all begin? Each of us have our own personal answer to this one, ranging from ‘who cares’ to ‘it’s all a result of chemical reactions’, to the ‘Divine Spirit’. Many people are unclear as to the difference between spirituality and religion, or how modern day science came about as a result of the two. The general lack of understanding of the most basic matters of Religion mean that people can be easily influenced by those with negative agendas.

Is religion making itself less relevant ? I was bought up in a household with Christian values although religion was never a compulsory option. I grew up with these values but did not feel compelled to attend Church services. In fact as I matured I saw the church and their teaching as hypocritical. On the one hand it was God that made us all equal but on the other women and gay people, to give an example,  could not teach his message. God taught us right and wrong, and the consequences, whilst ‘gods messengers’ had a different set of rules.

It is this behavior that greatly weakens the message religion is trying to teach. Religions of the world, particularly the Catholic church, are becoming less and less relevant in peoples lives (particularly in the western world) because people are more aware of their contradictions , compounded by the twenty thousand other things we have found to worship in our celebrity & materialistic world. Galileo would have told you that the truth doesn’t mean ‘you are right‘ If you want to influence people the truth is only the truth when people believe you, loose your credibility & you loose your ability to teach.

The church and their followers have played a massive past role in shaping the way we think and behave. Unfortunately their need to be ‘right’ or need to hang on to ‘power’ has ensured only their truth is permited.  An example of this is in the 1920’s when in the US South passed a law banning the teaching of Darwinism in schools as it was against the teachings of the church. This law was in place until the 60’s!

The purpose of this site is not to condemn religion. It is more to understand why it is becoming less relevant. Whether this is a good or bad thing is for the reader to contemplate. Although the whole subject of religion is a massive one I found that I was unaware of some of the most basic points. When I asked around I found many people were as ignorant as myself about  important matters. I attach a short resume of the answers I found. Click here for short summary on the basics of religion

I have to date only had one major epiphany It was when I read the following by Dr. Wayne Dyer :-

dyer-wayne“My belief is that the truth is a truth until you organise it, and then it becomes a lie. I don’t think that Jesus was teaching Christianity Jesus was teaching kindness, love, concern, and peace. What I tell people is don’t be Christian, be Christ-like. Don’t be Buddhist be Buddha-like.

“Religion is orthodoxy, rules and historical scriptures maintained by people over long periods of time. Generally people are raised to obey the customs and practices of that religion without question. These are customs and expectations from outside the person and do not fit my definition of spiritual.”

In these few words he eloquently expresses precisely what I, and I believe many others feel. The bottom line is religion is ‘Made by Man’ and therefore suffers with human faults. So in what order did SRS develop? Well it was exactly that spirituality, religion, science.

In the beginning, as it were, there was spirituality. Click here for a definition of SPIRITUALITY When we are clear as to what spirituality is we can contemplate that at some stage of human development our ancestors would have started thinking about who they were, what had created them, how they could contribute, and what was their purpose for being? This is the basis of spiritualism. It was in its purest form and had nothing to do with Religion as religion did not exist.

We are led to understand that thousands of years ago humans were primitive beings as they did not have all the technology we have today. Looking at ancient texts it is probable that their spiritual purity gave them skills that are rare today such as telepathy, clairvoyance, & levitation, hence they had no need for modern day technology (i.e. mobile phones, faxes, emails etc). This spiritual purity is being rediscovered today.

One of the greatest and longest surviving spiritual texts ever written is Loa Tzu ‘Tao de Ching’. It is said to be the wisest book ever written. Written 2500 years ago, the oldest version found was in a tomb on bamboo tablets dating to 300BC. Much of its teachings are found in the New Testament written 600 years later.

Dr. Wayne Dyer has written a fantastic book (Change your thoughts change your life. Living the wisdom of the Tao) bringing the meanings of Loa Tzu into the 21st. Century where it is as relevant today as it was 2500 years ago.

So with all this spiritual power in the world thousands of years ago, what happened ? Where did it all go? Obviously spiritualism never ‘went away’, I would imagine though it was never everybody’s ‘cup of tea’ However before we go there here’s a very short reminder as to where we come from! Although the earth is believed to be 5 to 6 thousand million years old humans (homo sapians sapians) as we know ourselves, have been located in the current populated areas of the world for around 17,000 years!!!  Click here for a short resume of ‘official’ evolution story

That’s really not a great deal of time when you think about it! So which was the first religion? This is a difficult question because there was religion thousands of years before people began writing. Click here for macro resume of religion. The first recorded record of religious beliefs were found in Mesopotamia (Iraq) & Ancient Egypt and dated 3500 BC. They used soft clay blocks or tablets to write on, which were then baked in an oven or by the Sun; so unless ground into dust, nothing will destroy it. So this is again relatively ‘recently’.

Time periods of Abrahamic Religions. Abraham is said to have lived around 1800 BC and Moses around 1500BC. As we know Jesus’s birth started the modern day western calendar. Muḥammad ibn `Abd Allāh was born 26th April 570 in modern day Mecca. Both Jews and Muslim claim Jerusalem as their holy city, Jews due to their 3000 year attachment to the city and Muslims due to Muhammad visit there and him making it the third holiest city after Mecca & Medina. What is the purpose of Religion? The answer to this one will depend on who you are asking, and can range between:-

The way people organise themselves to worship God, teaching guidelines to follow through life, based on morals and good behavior towards our fellow man.

Generate money and power to manipulate the masses to adhere to a certain code of conduct and agenda.

So how did religion get so big? When looking at the population of the earth it is clear that since the birth of Abraham it has under gone an amazing growth which has driven the popularity of religion. As the human body continued to evolve we became better and better at reproducing and consequently surviving. We went into a sort of mass production!

As with any mass production there is a cost. In the case of the human race one cost was a shift from individual spiritualism, to organised religion. Religion taught ‘good behavior’ through morals and pertained to have the answers the masses were starting to ask (need). Constantine was a good example. The enforcement of their doctrines was on the basis that God would punish those that diddn’t ‘toe the line’ in accordance to their scriptures. Religion and armed conflict. Click for macro history

For many centuries the church and European rulers were one of the same thing. Rome exerted incredible power and would do anything to maintain it. Whatever your views on religion history demonstrates that almost all wars have been fought using religious justification. The Catholic church from the Crusades to the Inquisitions have used violent and inhuman behavior to achieve its aims of preserving their faith whilst converting the planet to what was/is in their opinion the only God and only true religion. It has to be said that the muslims have been intrangedent in this matter and the Jews believe that they, and no one else were specifically chosen by God to spread his message.

This religious intransigence is the cause of many of todays problems. Unfortunately today religion forms a means to an end for the interested parties wishing to wage war . The wests so called ‘War on terror’ is a good example.

The rise of modern day Science Click here for Macro history of Scienctific Rennaisance It should be understood that the church had a ‘monopoly type’ hold on the ‘facts of life’ up to the 1500‘s. As a result of several factors including the churches intolerance to beliefs other than those written in their own doctrines, their violent enforcement of these doctrines, a general shift is consciousness after the black death,

Scholars started looking away from the church for their answers. This resulted in amazing advances in a relatively short time, which soon made science the new ‘official provider’ of information. Unfortunately, over the past five hundred years we have moved from not being able to question anything, to often questioning too much! We have come to live in a world where believe that if it can not be explained scientifically, it is nonsense. This has subsequently taken us away from where it all started i.e. Spirituality

Spirituality understands that we are all connected to everybody through the energy we generate. Spirituality knows we can make a difference to our world just by the way we think. This can obviously not be explained by the objectiveness of modern day science so is non-sensed. Another added confusion has been that many, including myself, did not understand the difference between Religion and Spirituality therefore any ‘issues’ one had with Religion affected, in a decremental way, ones ability to reach higher consciousness through spirituality.

Science & Spirituality coming together. In the past twenty to thirty years a combination of higher consciousness and advances in science particularly quantum / meta physics has accelerated the parallels of science and spirituality. Meta science is now proving what spiritual people have always know. The evidence is so powerful that even the most Atheist of scientists (total non believers in God) are becoming Agnostic (undecided about whether or not God exists) So after 2000 years we are finally getting somewhere in understanding who we really are and how each one of us influence our world !!

Gregg Braden is internationally renowned as a pioneer in bridging science and spirituality. Following a successful career as a Computer Geologist for Phillips Petroleum during the 1970s energy crisis, he became a Senior Computer Systems Designer for Martin Marietta Defense Systems during the last years of the Cold War. In 1991 he was appointed the first Technical Operations Manager for Cisco Systems where he led the development of the global support team that assures the reliability of today’s Internet.

For more than 22 years, Gregg has searched high mountain villages, remote monasteries, and forgotten texts to uncover their timeless secrets. To date, his work has led to such paradigm-shattering books as The Isaiah Effect, The God Code, The Divine Matrix and his 2008 release, The Spontaneous Healing of Belief: Shattering the Paradigm of False Limits. His work is now published in 17 languages and 27 countries and shows us beyond any reasonable doubt that the key to our future lies in the wisdom of our past.

Attached is a presentation on ‘The Science of Miracles’. Explaining that ‘miracles’ become technology when the science is understood. The second video demonstrates such a miracle, he is a breath of Fresh Air ! He describes how scientists have proved that we can effect our own DNA through thought, even if it’s located miles away from us, and that the feelings of humans can be measured in space from the energy we are emitting. He also explains how amazing science break throughs do not even make the headlines.
